Choosing the right puppy dog food can seem like an impossible decision to make. This is because of the wide range of products on store shelves that all claim that they are the best one to feed your puppy.

While some people may follow the recommendations of veterinarians and dog breeders, you have to remember that they are not dog food experts.

With just a little bit of training you can pick out the right puppy dog food. Here are seven tips to help you do this properly.

1. The label on the bag lists all of the ingredients in the product decreasing order of quantity used. The first product listed should be some type of meat if it is a quality product.

2. Second, the primary carbohydrate on the label should be brown rice. This is because puppies have an immature digestive tract, and brown rice is the most easily digestible for them.

3. If you have any doubts about which puppy food to buy, go with a brand that you've heard of before and trust. Now is not the time to go with a brand that you have not heard of before.

4. If you have a large breed puppy, feed them a diet that is specific for them. Large breed puppies need slow and controlled growth in order to have healthy bones and joints.

5. Once the bag of food is opened you should try and store it in an airtight container to keep the food from becoming stale and rancid.

6. Dog food recalls seem to be happening more often these days. You should always check the company's website and see if there have been any product recalls lately.

7. When you have decided on the right puppy dog food, make sure you feed the recommended amount. This is always listed on the side of every bag, and you should follow the instructions carefully.
