GPS For Pets

Most animal owners consider their pets as part of their family, and when one doesn't come home there can be panic. Cats and dogs can lose their way home or fall into a bit of trouble when out, preventing them from returning home. That is why a lot of pet owners are now choosing to use a pet GPS to help them keep track and bring home those that wander off from time to time.

If you have never heard of these kind of devices, they simply allows you to locate and easily go after your pet if they should find themselves lost or unable to make it back home again. Simply attach to your pet, using a collar for example, and this will transmit their location to a receiver. The objective of these devices to help families and their lost pet are reunited as quickly as possible.

Because these systems are so easy to use, their popularity is growing. They are created to attach to collars, harnesses, and any wearable accessory that you may put on your pet like backpacks or even clothing. You can find some that have the device incorporated right into the collar also.

Many owners love the fact that they are easy to attach and remove from the pet and prefer to use these rather than micro chipping their pet. It is less invasive and you do have more control over where the device is located and have the added security of always being able to know where your animal is at hand.

Each device has a different range to locate the pet with. You'll find some will only be able to locate your pet a few hundred yards from your home while others have a range of up to three miles away. The range will also depend on the battery life; while some are rechargeable there are others that you can use two AA batteries with.

Locating your lost or wandering pet after the device is placed upon them can be done in a variety of ways. One of the modes of locating is through your mobile phone. After buying your device and setting things up, you may have the option of using your phone to find your pet. A special SIM card is used and it allows you to send an SMS to the collar and in turn, you get a return message with either a text or a map showing you where the animal is.

You may also be able to use the internet to track and locate as some systems come with a website that has tracking tools and maps to allow you to pinpoint the exact location. You would simply go to the designated website and start your search.

Some companies prefer to include a hand held device that is very similar to a mobile phone. You'll find that these devices are able to show you the location of your animal with maps and texts also.

If you have a pet that likes to wander off or who happens to lose their way home often enough to cause you to worry, letting technology work for you with a pet GPS can really set your mind at ease. You'll always be able to feel connected to your little family member, even when they decide that today is the day they take their walk alone.
